Norwegian Footballer Andreas Schjelderup Faces Legal Trouble Over Video Incident

  November 10, 2025

Norwegian footballer Andreas Schjelderup has publicly acknowledged that he is facing legal consequences in Denmark for sharing a video without consent, calling it a “serious and regrettable mistake.”

The 21-year-old Benfica winger issued a heartfelt statement on Instagram, taking full responsibility for an incident that took place when he was just 19 and playing for Danish Superliga club Nordsjaelland.

Schjelderup’s Statement and Apology

In his message, Schjelderup described the situation as a “stupid mistake”, explaining that he had forwarded a video to a friend without realizing its nature. He said that as soon as he became aware of what it contained, he deleted it.

“What I did in Denmark at the time was wrong and against the law. I take full responsibility for my actions,” Schjelderup said.

He also issued apologies to those affected, as well as to his family, friends, club, national team, and fans, expressing deep remorse for his behavior.

“I wish I could go back and undo my mistake. I have never been in any legal trouble before, and this experience has been a huge shock for me,” he added.

Legal Proceedings in Denmark

Danish authorities have confirmed that Schjelderup has been charged and is cooperating fully with investigators. He is expected to receive a suspended sentence, with court proceedings scheduled for later this month.

While the exact content of the video has not been made public, Schjelderup clarified that he only viewed part of it before forwarding it, and that he had no intent to cause harm.

He urged the public to act responsibly online, saying:

“No one should share or spread harmful content. What I did does not reflect who I am or my values.”

Support from Club and National Team

Benfica President Rui Costa has expressed his support for the young player, confirming that the club is standing by him during the investigation.

Norway’s head coach Stale Solbakken also addressed the issue, calling it “an incredibly foolish act,” but said Schjelderup is taking full responsibility.

“He knows he made a mistake. What’s important is that he learns from it and moves forward. We will support him as he joins the national team,” Solbakken said.

Upcoming World Cup Qualifiers

The timing of the controversy is sensitive, as Schjelderup was recently named in Norway’s 24-man squad for crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Estonia and Italy. Norway is aiming to qualify for its first World Cup since 1998.

Acknowledging the distraction the situation might cause, Schjelderup stated:

“I wanted to address this after the qualifiers, but unfortunately, that was not possible. I remain focused on helping my country achieve our goals on the field.”

Conclusion

The young Norwegian winger’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible digital behavior and awareness of privacy laws in the social media era. Despite the controversy, Schjelderup has received widespread support from teammates and officials who believe he can learn from the mistake and rebuild his reputation both on and off the field.
