Novak Djokovic reveals retirement plans

Novak Djokovic Eyes 2028 Olympics as Final Career Goal

Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic has shared that the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games are now his main source of motivation in professional tennis, fueling speculation about when he might retire from the sport.

At 38 years old, Djokovic remains one of the most decorated players in tennis history, with 24 Grand Slam titles and 100 ATP singles titles to his name. However, he revealed that the desire to compete at the Los Angeles Olympics is what’s currently driving him to continue.

“I could have said goodbye to professional tennis after this loss,” Djokovic stated, reflecting on his recent semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros. “The only thing that at this moment, professionally speaking, I have in my vision is the Olympics of 2028 in Los Angeles.”

🥇 Olympic Dreams Over Grand Slams

Djokovic, who won his first Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games by defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, emphasized that the Olympics have now taken priority over even the Grand Slams.

“Playing for the national team and Grand Slams, yes. But not even the Grand Slams — not as much as the Olympics,” he added.

This marks a significant shift for the tennis icon, as Djokovic has long pursued Grand Slam glory and career records.

👟 Long-Term Plans and Endorsement Support

His long-time sponsor, Lacoste, recently confirmed Djokovic’s intention to remain active in professional tennis until the 2028 Olympics. Thierry Guibert, CEO of Lacoste, told French media that Djokovic remains committed to his fitness and competition schedule, signaling no immediate plans to step away from the sport.

Despite battling injuries and performance fluctuations over recent seasons, Djokovic remains focused on reaching new milestones—including potentially surpassing Jimmy Connors’ all-time ATP record of 109 titles.

🎾 A Champion’s Legacy in the Making

As fans and analysts watch closely, Djokovic’s career path appears to be entering its final chapter—with a strong finish at the Los Angeles Olympics serving as a fitting culmination to an illustrious journey.

Whether he chooses to extend his career beyond 2028 or not, one thing is clear: Djokovic’s passion for representing Serbia on the global stage remains as strong as ever.
