Shohei Ohtani Hits Major Milestone with 1,000th Career Hit and Season-Best Pitching Performance
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani had a memorable night on Wednesday, delivering both at the plate and on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ohtani launched a go-ahead, two-run home run — marking the 1,000th hit of his professional career — and struck out a season-high eight batters during his longest pitching outing of the year.
Making his eighth start of the season, Ohtani showcased his dual-threat skills once again. After missing all of 2024 from the mound due to elbow surgery, the right-hander looked strong against the St. Louis Cardinals, closing out the fourth inning by striking out the side.
As temperatures soared to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32°C), Ohtani walked off the mound wiping sweat from his face — a moment that underscored the intensity of his performance. St. Louis’ Masyn Winn, clearly frustrated, tossed his bat after striking out.
Reflecting on the outing, Ohtani said through a translator, “I thought it was a big day for me personally getting to the fourth inning. That was really good in terms of building up.”
Fans continue to be amazed by Ohtani’s remarkable two-way talent, and with performances like this, his comeback season is only gaining momentum.
