Othello High School Softball Program Seeks New Head Coach for 2025-26 Season
OTHELLO, WA — The Othello High School softball team is officially searching for a new head coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. With a strong legacy of success, the program is now under the leadership of newly appointed Athletic Director Carlos Gonzalez, who is carefully evaluating candidates to lead the team into its next chapter.
“Former head coach Rudy Ochoa built a remarkable program that spanned over two decades,” said Gonzalez. “His legacy lives on through the players and achievements, and now we’re committed to finding the right leader to continue that tradition of excellence.”
The school district is welcoming applications from a wide pool of candidates, including current school staff, community members, and experienced coaches who share a passion for the sport. Gonzalez emphasized that experience in coaching and playing, as well as strong ties to the Othello community, will be key factors in the hiring decision.
“Othello softball has deep roots in our community,” Gonzalez added. “We owe it to our players, families, and fans to conduct a thorough search and find someone truly dedicated to growing the program.”
While the hiring process for the softball position is underway, Gonzalez is also prioritizing open roles for fall and winter sports, including a C-team girls basketball coach and an assistant boys wrestling coach. Once those positions are filled, attention will turn fully toward softball.
“The head coaching role in softball is incredibly important, and we want to take our time to make the right choice,” Gonzalez said. “Patience will help us preserve the program’s winning tradition.”
With a history of state-level competitiveness, Othello’s athletic programs have long been a source of pride, and Gonzalez plans to keep that momentum strong.
“Our school and community are known for standout programs in football, volleyball, wrestling, baseball, and especially softball,” he said. “We’re committed to investing in the future and building on the success we’ve achieved.”
