Pakistan Opt to Bowl First Against India in Women’s World Cup Clash in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: Pakistan have chosen to bowl first in their high-voltage encounter against India in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, being played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

The toss went in favor of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, who decided to field first against Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian side. The match, starting at 2:30 pm (PKT), promises to be one of the most anticipated contests of the tournament.

While India is hosting this year’s Women’s World Cup, Pakistan are playing their matches in Sri Lanka under a hybrid model agreed upon after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

As of early afternoon, weather reports from ESPNcricinfo described conditions as “dry, but with dark clouds hovering over the ground.” The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced free entry for all matches taking place in Colombo, encouraging fans to turn up in large numbers.

This match marks the fourth consecutive Sunday the arch-rivals are meeting on the cricket field, following a string of high-intensity contests in recent tournaments.

Despite the off-field chatter surrounding the handshake controversy from the Asia Cup, Fatima Sana made it clear that Pakistan’s focus remains entirely on performance and teamwork.

The semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup are set for October 29 and 30, while the final will be held on November 2.
