Pakistan Railways Changes Timings of Three Major Trains

Pakistan Railways Updates Train Timings from Lahore to Karachi Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Pakistan Railways has officially revised the departure schedules for three major passenger trains departing from Lahore to Karachi, in response to recent operational changes and rising fuel prices.

🕒 New Train Departure Timings

As per the latest update:

  • Business Express will now depart at 6:30 PM, instead of its earlier 4:30 PM schedule.

  • Karachi Express has been rescheduled to leave at 8:00 PM, two hours later than its previous 6:00 PM time.

  • Shah Hussain Express will now depart at 10:15 PM, delayed by over an hour from its earlier 9:00 PM timing.

These changes are aimed at optimizing operations amid increased running costs.

📈 Fare Increases Linked to Fuel Price Hike

The schedule update follows a recent 2% increase in passenger fares, implemented after a sharp Rs. 11.37 per liter hike in diesel prices. The price surge has significantly impacted Pakistan Railways’ daily operations, raising fuel costs by Rs. 3.99 million per day, which adds up to nearly Rs. 119.5 million per month.

🚛 Freight Charges Also Increased

In addition to passenger fares, freight charges have also been adjusted:

  • Coal transport rates increased by 3%

  • Fertilizer transport rates increased by 2%

🔍 What This Means for Passengers

Travelers planning trips from Lahore to Karachi are advised to check the updated departure times before arriving at the station. Officials say the adjustments are necessary to manage the financial strain on the national rail system while maintaining service quality.
