Renowned international wrestler Muhammad Inam Butt has been elected as the Secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) for the 2025–2029 term, marking a significant development in the sport’s national leadership.

The elections, held at the Pakistan Olympic House in Lahore, also brought in Arshad Sattar as the new PWF President. The new leadership is expected to bring both continuity and renewed focus to the development of wrestling in Pakistan.

Inam Butt, 36, is one of Pakistan’s most accomplished wrestlers, having won two Commonwealth Games gold medals and two South Asian Games titles. His transition into a leadership role is being welcomed as a step forward for the sport, with stakeholders hopeful that his on-the-mat experience will translate into effective sports governance.

“Inam’s involvement will be a turning point,” said newly elected President Arshad Sattar. “He understands the needs and challenges of our wrestlers better than anyone.”

Following his appointment, Inam confirmed that while he plans to compete in select international events, his primary focus will now shift to administrative duties and developing the sport from the grassroots level.

“I want to spare more time for this post,” Inam said. “We need to uplift wrestling from the grassroots level and strengthen support systems for our top athletes. This role gives me a chance to do that.”

In addition to his new responsibilities, Inam Butt has previously served as the Chair of the Pakistan Olympic Association’s Athletes’ Commission, where he represented athletes’ interests across multiple sports.

Inam’s wrestling career began gaining international attention in 2010 when he won gold at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. He followed up with another gold in 2018 at the Gold Coast Games, competing in the 86kg freestyle category.

His election as PWF Secretary comes at a time when wrestling in Pakistan is seeking revival through better infrastructure, training opportunities, and athlete support. With his experience and vision, the next four years could bring a more athlete-focused approach to wrestling administration.

For a country with a strong wrestling heritage, this leadership change offers the potential to inspire meaningful growth in the sport, both nationally and internationally.
