Pakistani Ports Set to Integrate Artificial Intelligence

Pakistan to Launch AI-Based Port Operations by August 14, Says Federal Minister

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced that Pakistan’s port operations are set to undergo a major transformation with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI), full digitalization, and enhanced transparency measures. The AI-based system, AIMS (Artificial Intelligence Management System), will be launched on August 14, making the Ministry for Maritime Affairs the first federal ministry to adopt AI at the operational level.

Speaking during the question hour in the National Assembly, the minister highlighted that significant progress is being made to modernize and streamline port operations. He dismissed claims of inefficiency, stating that ports act as facilitators of trade rather than producers of industrial output.

“Despite challenges and concerns of underutilization, our ports achieved a record profit of Rs 109.7 billion. This performance speaks for itself,” Chaudhry said.

He added that with the Prime Minister’s new policy on AI, Pakistan’s ports will become more efficient, transparent, and future-ready. The Port Community System and Pakistan Single Window are also being implemented to reduce customs delays, prevent leakages, and address long-standing inefficiencies.

On the issue of port-related thefts, the minister said his ministry is working closely with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs to strengthen controls, ensure faster clearance, and integrate policies for better results.

Chaudhry also confirmed that a new bunkering policy will be announced soon to encourage international participation and investment in Pakistan’s maritime fuel supply chain.

Expressing gratitude for the appreciation received from parliamentarians, the minister reaffirmed his commitment to accountability, innovation, and growth in the maritime sector.
