PPL Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery in Attockβs Dhok Sultan Block
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery in District Attock, Punjab, marking its second successful find in the Dhok Sultan Block. The discovery is being described as a major breakthrough, as it also ranks as the second deepest oil find in naturally fractured carbonate formations within the Potwar region.
According to PPL, this milestone strengthens Pakistanβs energy sector and highlights the companyβs strong exploration capabilities. The discovery was made in partnership with Government Holdings (Pvt) Ltd (GHPL).
Details of the Discovery
PPL operates the Dhok Sultan Block with a 75% working interest, while GHPL holds the remaining 25% share. Drilling of the Dhok Sultan-03 well began on January 18 and reached a depth of 5,815 metres.
The well has shown promising production results:

At a 32/64β choke, it produced 1,469 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 2.56 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas, with a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 1,147 psig.

On a 48/64β choke, output increased to 2,113 bpd of oil and 4.13 mmscfd of gas, with WHFP recorded at 813 psig.

Industry experts believe this new discovery will contribute positively to Pakistanβs domestic energy supply, helping reduce reliance on imported fuel and strengthening energy security.
The company emphasized that this achievement reflects its ongoing commitment to exploring and developing new resources to meet the countryβs growing energy needs.
