Private Hospitals Ordered to Reserve 35% Beds for Flood Victims

PHC Directs Private Hospitals to Reserve Beds for Flood Victims

In response to the recent floods, the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has mandated all private hospitals in the province to allocate 35% of their beds for the treatment of flood-affected individuals.

The directive, issued on Thursday, places healthcare facilities on “Emergency High Alert,” urging them to take immediate action. Hospitals are required to:

  • Provide free treatment for flood victims.

  • Keep a steady supply of essential medicines.

  • Ensure 24/7 availability of medical and support staff, including senior administrators.

  • Maintain full operation of emergency wards, ICUs, and high-dependency units.

  • Keep critical equipment like ventilators, X-rays, CT scans, and MRI machines fully functional.

Additionally, hospitals must strengthen monitoring systems to curb the spread of waterborne diseases and prepare evacuation plans in case of structural risks. PHC has also warned of strict action for non-compliance.
