PSG Stuns Barcelona with Late Winner, Man City Held by Monaco
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) delivered late drama in the UEFA Champions League as Goncalo Ramos struck a decisive 90th-minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory over Barcelona on Wednesday night.
PSG Makes a Statement in Europe
Playing at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barcelona took an early lead through Ferran Torres in the 19th minute. Despite missing star players Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG showed their depth and determination.
Senny Mayulu equalized in the 38th minute before Achraf Hakimi set up Ramos for the last-gasp winner. The result gave defending champions PSG two wins from two games, underlining their status as one of the favorites to lift the trophy again.
Coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s spirit:
“When players wear this badge, effort and attitude are non-negotiable.”
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick admitted PSG were the better side, saying his team must “accept the defeat and improve.”
Haaland Scores Twice but City Held
At the Stade Louis II, Erling Haaland scored twice for Manchester City, but the holders of the Premier League title were pegged back by Monaco, who earned a 2-2 draw thanks to Eric Dier’s late penalty.
Haaland has now scored 52 goals in 50 Champions League appearances, closing in on Lionel Messi’s record pace to 60 goals. Despite his form, City boss Pep Guardiola was left frustrated by the dropped points.
