PTA Warns: Unregistered Mobile Phones to Be Blocked Across Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh warning for mobile users, stating that all unregistered mobile devices will soon be blocked from operating on local networks.
Registration Through DIRBS Mandatory
PTA has advised citizens to register their handsets using the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) to ensure smooth connectivity. According to the authority, this step is necessary to prevent misuse of illegal phones and to protect users from fraud.
Why Unregistered Phones Are a Risk
Unregistered or illegally imported devices are not recognized in the official system. PTA explained that such phones can be exploited in financial scams, cybercrime, and even national security threats. Owning, selling, or using these devices is a violation of telecom regulations and is considered a punishable offence.
Public Advisory
PTA has strongly urged people to:
-
Avoid buying or selling unregistered phones
-
Check the status of their device on the official DIRBS portal
-
Register their handsets before the deadline to avoid service suspension
The authority also warned that failure to comply could lead to blocked services and possible legal action.
Final Deadline Approaching
Users have only a limited time to register their devices. PTA emphasized that timely action is the only way to ensure uninterrupted mobile service in Pakistan.
