PTI women finalised for Punjab Assembly reserved seats

PTI Finalizes Candidates for Women’s Reserved Seats in Punjab Assembly

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has finalized its list of candidates for the women’s reserved seats in the Punjab Assembly following a favorable Supreme Court verdict. This ruling grants PTI the reserved seats based on the general seats won in the February 8 vote.

The list includes 35 women candidates, such as social media activist Sanam Javaid and central Punjab chapter president Dr. Yasmin Rashid. However, PTI is eligible to claim only 24 reserved seats in the provincial assembly. The final approval of this list will be given by PTI founder chairman Imran Khan.

Key Candidates on the List

Some prominent women leaders included in the list are:

  • Tayyaba Ambreen
  • Naheed Niaz (Okara)
  • Abida Raja (North Punjab Women Wing Head)
  • Saira Raza (North Punjab General Secretary)
  • Azra Naseem (West Punjab General Secretary)
  • Qurban Fatima (Ex-South Punjab President)
  • Farah Agha (Ex-MPA and Rawalpindi District Head)
  • Firdous Rahna (Ex-MPA and Women Wing VP)
  • Sadia Ayub
  • Ayesha Bhutta
  • Neelam Iftikhar Rao (Sahiwal Chapter Head)
  • Sara Ali Syed
  • Tanzeela Imran (Lahore Women Wing Chief)

Other notable names include Rukhsana Raza Bano, Ruqia Bibi (Rajanpur District President), and Safia Javed (Recommended by Moonis Elahi).

Background and Context

Most nominees have participated in the May 9 protest or performed security duties at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence. In May, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan suspended 24 women and three minority MPAs elected on reserved seats, preventing them from joining house proceedings. This action followed the Supreme Court’s suspension of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s verdict to allocate reserved seats to parties other than PTI/Sunni Ittehad Council.

National Assembly Reserved Seats

PTI has also prepared a list of 14 nominees for the reserved seats for women from the Punjab quota in the National Assembly. Key figures include:

  • Kanwal Shauzeb (Women’s Wing President)
  • Rubina Shaheen (General Secretary)
  • Seemabiya Tahir (Ex-North Punjab President)
  • Farkhunda Kokab
  • Aaliya Hamza
  • Shahnaz Tariq (Interim Punjab President)
  • Dr. Misbah Zafar (General Secretary Punjab)
  • Rabia Sultan Cheema (Ex-Governor Umar Cheema’s Wife)
  • Farah Agha
  • Firdous Rehana

These candidates reflect PTI’s commitment to ensuring strong representation for women in both provincial and national assemblies.
