The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved several major road rehabilitation and improvement projects across Punjab, with an estimated cost running into billions of rupees.
The approvals were granted during the PDWP’s 26th meeting on Monday, chaired by Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board Punjab. Out of the ten projects cleared, a substantial portion is dedicated to road infrastructure development.
Among the approved schemes is the 36-kilometer road rehabilitation from Lakisan Pul (KM 130 on Lahore-Sargodha Road) to Lillian, passing through Jhilla Makhdoom, Ghaus Muhammadwala, Miana Khu, Mateela, and Chak 67/SB in Sargodha district. This project carries an estimated cost of Rs. 934.2 million.
Another major project involves the widening and improvement of the 69-kilometer road from Sargodha (Kuthery Phattak) to Jhamra, via Shaheenabad, Silanwali, Sobhaga, and Shahnikdar. Part of Phase I, this project will be executed at a cost of Rs. 1.667 billion.
Additionally, the rehabilitation of the road from Chak 59/Janubi Railway Phattak to Sillanwall Mor in Sargodha district will be carried out for Rs. 875.9 million.
In Faisalabad, the widening and improvement of the Samundari-Rajana Road from Khiderwala to Chak 242/GB on Khiderwala-Gojra Road is approved for Rs. 1.071 billion.
Lahore district will also see benefits, as the reconstruction of the 47-kilometer metalled road from Ichogil to Ghawindi-Barki Junction (Phase I) has been approved for Rs. 1 billion.
These projects are expected to enhance connectivity, improve traffic flow, and boost economic activity across the province.
