Punjab Launches Airlift Drone Service for Flood Rescue

Punjab Launches Emergency Airlift Drone Service for Flood Rescue Operations

The Punjab government has introduced a groundbreaking emergency airlift drone service to support rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas. The specially designed drone can lift and transport a person weighing up to 200 kilograms, making it a vital addition to disaster response efforts.

Immediate Deployment to Multan

Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi directed that the drone be dispatched to Multan to help rescue people stranded by rising floodwaters. Before deployment, the Civil Defense successfully conducted test flights over the Ravi River in Lahore, ensuring its operational readiness.

Expansion Plans

Dr. Qazi announced that the provincial government will purchase 10 additional airlift drones, making Punjab the first province in Pakistan to establish such an advanced rescue service. He added that the Home Department is committed to equipping Civil Defense with modern technology and international-standard training to strengthen emergency response.

“This drone service will allow us to rescue people from areas that are otherwise too dangerous or inaccessible,” he stated.

Role of Civil Defense Teams

Highlighting the role of Civil Defense volunteers, Dr. Qazi said they provide crucial support during floods and disasters by:

  • Rescuing stranded individuals and livestock

  • Transporting victims and belongings to safety

  • Ensuring the delivery of food, medicine, and shelter

He further revealed that over 4,000 citizens registered this week as Civil Defense volunteers through the government’s online portal.

Flood Relief Updates in Lahore

Meanwhile, Commissioner Maryam Khan confirmed that de-watering operations are underway at Mohlanwal Theme Park, on the instructions of the Chief Minister. Seventeen de-watering machines, five cranes, and temporary drains have been deployed.

“So far, more than half of the floodwater has been cleared from low-lying areas of the park,” she noted.
