Punjab Police Ordered to Declare Dual Nationality Status by Monday
In line with new accountability measures, all police officers and personnel in Punjab have been directed to submit their dual nationality declarations—regardless of whether they hold a second citizenship—by Monday.
This directive was issued by City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, following orders from Punjab Inspector General (IGP) Dr. Usman Anwar.
📋 Mandatory for All Ranks and Units
Senior police officials, including SPs, SDPOs, SHOs, and heads of key divisions such as the CIA, Investigation Wing, Dolphin Force, and Elite Force, have been instructed to ensure timely compliance.
The move is part of a province-wide initiative to compile accurate records of officers’ foreign affiliations. The IGP’s office had earlier requested detailed data on dual nationalities held by officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), including:
-
Country of second citizenship
-
Date of acquisition
-
Current posting details
🛡️ Extending to All Law Enforcement Agencies
The directive also applies to leadership across various agencies, including:
-
National Highways & Motorway Police
-
Punjab Safe Cities Authority
-
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)
-
Anti-Corruption Department
-
Police Training Academies
🌍 Growing Foreign Ties Raise Concerns
A senior official revealed that 30% to 40% of Punjab police officers have family members with foreign citizenship, mainly in countries like Canada, the UK, Turkiye, and Malta. The figure is notably higher in Punjab compared to other provinces.
Authorities fear that such dual affiliations could pose potential conflicts of interest, especially after retirement, when officers may relocate more easily due to existing family links abroad.
