Punjab to Provide Biscuits With Milk in Government Schools

Punjab Launches School Nutrition Programme to Provide Milk and Biscuits to Students

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has convened a special session of the School Meal Programme Committee to finalize the company that will supply milk and biscuits to students in government schools.

The initiative, part of the Chief Minister’s School Nutrition Programme, will initially be rolled out in eight districts, including:

  • Bhakkar

  • Bahawalnagar

  • Dera Ghazi Khan

  • Layyah

  • Rajanpur

  • Mianwali

  • Muzaffargarh

  • Rahim Yar Khan

Tackling Malnutrition Among Students

The programme has been designed to combat malnutrition in schoolchildren, particularly in underdeveloped areas of the province. Officials confirmed that more than 400,000 undernourished students enrolled in 3,527 government schools will receive a daily serving of milk, along with biscuits.

By ensuring regular nutritional support, the Punjab government aims to improve student health, school attendance, and learning outcomes.

Recycling Initiative for School Welfare

In addition to providing nutrition, the scheme also includes a recycling plan. Used milk packs will be collected and recycled, with the proceeds invested back into the welfare and development of participating schools.

A Step Toward a Healthier Future

The School Nutrition Programme is being launched as a pilot project, with potential for province-wide expansion. If successful, it could become a model for addressing malnutrition in schools across Pakistan, improving the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.
