Punjab University Declares Sudden Holiday Amid Security Concerns in Lahore
 Oct 10, 2025

The University of the Punjab (PU) in Lahore has announced an unscheduled holiday following government directives issued due to heightened security concerns linked to a rally organized by a religious political group.

According to an official notification released by the university’s registrar, all academic and administrative operations have been suspended from 11:00 am today (Friday, October 10, 2025). Students and staff have been advised to stay updated through official university channels regarding the resumption of regular activities.

Increased Security Across Punjab

Authorities have intensified security measures across the province, with multiple routes, including the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway, temporarily sealed. The decision follows overnight unrest that erupted when police attempted to arrest the party’s leader during a late-night raid at the group’s headquarters.

The situation quickly escalated as supporters clashed with police, reportedly throwing stones and using iron rods. According to reports, three police officers were injured, while law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Precautionary Measures Ahead of Planned Protest

Officials revealed that the political group had announced plans to hold a large-scale protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad on Friday. The demonstration was expected to highlight opposition to Israel’s actions, prompting authorities to implement preventive measures to ensure public safety.

The government has assured that law and order will be maintained and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel near protest zones. The University of the Punjab is expected to resume normal operations once the situation stabilizes.
