Karachi Reports Six Deaths from Rabies After Dog Bite Incidents
Karachi has reported six fatalities caused by rabies between May and August, following dog bite incidents across the city. Hospital officials confirmed that three patients were receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital, while the other three were admitted to Korangi Trust Hospital.
Rising Rabies Cases in Sindh
According to health authorities, rabies-related deaths in Sindh have reached 14 this year. Out of these, eight occurred at Jinnah Hospital and six at Korangi Trust Hospital.
In addition, more than 22,000 dog bite cases have been recorded across Sindh since the start of 2025, highlighting the urgent need for prevention and awareness.
Importance of First Aid and Vaccination
Medical experts stress that immediate first aid is critical after a dog bite. The wound should be thoroughly washed with soap and water for at least 15 minutes to help reduce the risk of infection.
Doctors also emphasize the importance of completing the full course of anti-rabies vaccination. Missing doses can significantly increase health risks.
