Retired Colonel’s Car Recovered After Monsoon Tragedy in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI – Rescue officials have recovered the car of Retired Colonel Ishaq Qazi, which was swept away in a flash flood along with him and his daughter during heavy rainfall last week. The incident occurred near Kak Bridge in Rawalpindi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 5, as confirmed by District Emergency Officer (DEO) Sibghatullah on Friday.
The vehicle, a grey Honda City, was retrieved after days of intensive search operations. Tragically, Colonel Qazi’s body was found last Friday. He was believed to be between 62 and 64 years old and a resident of DHA Phase 5.
Search Continues for Missing Daughter
His daughter, Muneba, who was also swept away in the floodwaters, remains missing. DEO Sibghatullah expressed hope that her body will be located soon, stating, “The body of the girl who drowned in the floodwater will also be found soon.”
How the Incident Happened
According to officials from Islamabad’s Sihala Police Station, the father and daughter attempted to leave their residence in the midst of torrential rainfall and waterlogged streets. Their car stalled due to water accumulation. As Colonel Ishaq tried to restart the vehicle, a strong flow of water from nearby hills intensified, and both were tragically swept away.
Monsoon Dangers in Pakistan
The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers associated with Pakistan’s monsoon season, which typically spans late June to September. During this period, many regions—especially in the north and west—face severe weather conditions, including flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding due to poor drainage systems.
Authorities continue to urge citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains and follow weather advisories for their safety.
