Routes Announced for Karachi BRT Yellow Line

Karachiโ€™s Yellow Line BRT to Operate Fully on Electric Buses

The upcoming Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi is set to become a landmark initiative in sustainable urban transport, as it will operate exclusively on electric buses. This makes it one of the first fully environment-friendly transit systems in the city.

The announcement was made by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during a recent briefing with a World Bank delegation at the Yellow Lineโ€™s project site near Jam Sadiq Bridge.

The World Bank-funded Yellow Line will stretch from Dawood Chowrangi in Quaidabad to Numaish, passing through key areas including the Korangi Industrial Area, Main Korangi Road, FTC Interchange, Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Kashmir Road, before connecting with the Red Line BRT.

Minister Memon described the project as a โ€œvisionary stepโ€ for Karachi, aimed at offering safe, efficient, and affordable public transportation. He emphasized that the use of electric buses would help minimize environmental impact, reduce fuel costs, and contribute to cleaner air in the city.

Highlighting the governmentโ€™s commitment to eco-friendly transportation, he mentioned that Pakistanโ€™s first electric bus service and the women-only Pink Bus have already been successfully launched under their administration. The Yellow Line, he noted, will build on this progress by providing further benefits to the public.

Memon also revealed that the electric scooter scheme for women has attracted significant interest, with over 8,000 applications received so far. He said the Yellow Line is not just a transport project, but a platform for social change.

In addition to the Yellow Line, the minister briefed the World Bank team on the progress of other major infrastructure projects, including the Karachi Circular Railway and the proposed Karachi-Sukkur high-speed rail line.

To boost economic growth and attract investment, the government has also introduced special economic zones offering a 10-year tax exemption for eligible investors.

With projects like the Yellow Line, Sindh is moving forward with a modern, sustainable transport vision that prioritizes both environmental responsibility and public welfare.
