Ryder Cup Star Robert MacIntyre Claims Alfred Dunhill Links Title on Home Soil
October 5, 2025
Robert MacIntyre continued his excellent form from last week’s Ryder Cup by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, becoming the first Scotsman in 20 years to lift the trophy.
The Oban native, who contributed 1.5 points for Europe at Bethpage Black, finished the tournament 18 under par after a stunning final-round 66. Tyrell Hatton, who sank the winning Ryder Cup putt for Europe, came in second, four shots behind after a seven-under day.
MacIntyre’s victory marks his fourth DP World Tour win and sees him follow in the footsteps of Colin Montgomerie, the last Scotsman to claim the title in 2005.
Reflecting on his achievement, MacIntyre said: “It’s brilliant, but I don’t know how I’m going to celebrate after the celebrations we had last Sunday… It’s a beautiful end to a good week. I only arrived here on Wednesday, had 12 holes, the diet hasn’t been great, but sometimes when you least expect it, things happen.”
The Oban-born golfer posted rounds of 66 at Kingsbarns and Carnoustie before finishing six under at the historic Old Course at St Andrews, completing a remarkable hat-trick across Scotland’s famous links courses.
With Saturday’s play canceled due to Storm Amy, the tournament was decided over a 54-hole format. MacIntyre got off to a fast start with a birdie three on the first hole and reached four under by the turn. His precise iron play and steady putting helped him maintain momentum, including a superb approach from the rough on the 13th that secured his top position.
MacIntyre’s triumph was celebrated by fellow Scottish sportsman and golf enthusiast Andy Murray, highlighting the significance of the win on home soil.
