Mohamed Salah Makes History With Third PFA Player of the Year Award

August 2025

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has written his name into English football history by becoming the first player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award three times.

Salah’s Historic Season

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward was instrumental in guiding Liverpool to their 20th Premier League title, equalling Manchester United’s record. Salah scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists, helping the Reds secure the trophy with four games to spare.

Previously, Salah had won the PFA award in 2017/18 and 2021/22. His remarkable consistency also saw him recently claim the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Year awards.

PFA Young Player of the Year

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers was named Young Player of the Year after a breakthrough season that included his first England senior international debut.

PFA Team of the Year

Salah is one of several Liverpool players named in the 2024/25 PFA Premier League Team of the Year, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Milos Kerkez (who joined from Bournemouth in June).

Other notable inclusions:

  • Arsenal trio: William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Declan Rice.

  • Nottingham Forest duo: Matz Sels and Chris Wood.

  • Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who finished second in the Golden Boot race behind Salah.

Women’s Awards

In the women’s category, Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey won the PFA Women’s Player of the Year award after an outstanding debut season in England. She scored 19 goals in all competitions, including eight in Arsenal’s Champions League-winning campaign.

Her new teammate, Olivia Smith, who recently signed for Arsenal from Liverpool in a world-record £1 million ($1.4 million) transfer, was named the Women’s Young Player of the Year for her stellar performances last season.
