Security forces kill 31 terrorists in Lakki Marwat, Bannu operations: ISPR

Security Forces Neutralize 31 Terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operations

Lakki Marwat/Bannu – Pakistan’s security forces killed 31 terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing confirmed on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were launched between September 13 and 14 following intelligence reports about the presence of armed militants in the region.

Details of the Operations

  • In Lakki Marwat, 14 militants were killed after troops engaged their positions in an intense exchange of fire.

  • In Bannu, another 17 terrorists were eliminated in a similar gun battle.

The ISPR added that sanitisation operations are still underway to clear the areas and ensure that no further threats remain. The statement reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remain fully committed to eliminating terrorism from the country.

Recent Developments

Just days earlier, the ISPR reported that 45 terrorists were killed in operations conducted between September 10 and 13, during which 19 soldiers embraced martyrdom.

Government Response

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and vowed to continue counter-terrorism efforts with β€œfull force.” He emphasized that those facilitating or supporting terrorist elements would be dealt with strictly.

Background

Pakistan has witnessed a recent surge in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire agreement with the government in November 2022 and has since escalated attacks targeting security forces, police, and law enforcement agencies.
