Seventh Monsoon Spell Expected This Week

Pakistan Braces for Seventh Round of Monsoon Rains Starting August 13

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced that Pakistan will experience its seventh spell of monsoon rains beginning August 13. This fresh wave of rainfall is expected to bring widespread showers across Punjab, affecting several districts and key river basins.

While the rains will offer welcome relief from the intense summer heat, officials have issued a flood advisory to caution residents. The PDMA warns that water levels in major rivers—including the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum—may rise significantly, raising the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

Authorities have directed district administrations and relevant departments to remain vigilant and ready to respond to any emergencies. Residents living near riverbanks are urged to take necessary safety measures. Additionally, the public is strongly advised to avoid swimming or bathing in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds during this time to prevent accidents.

DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, highlighted the importance of evacuating people and livestock from flood-prone riverine zones as a precautionary step. For urgent assistance, citizens can reach the PDMA helpline at 1129.

Stay informed and stay safe as the monsoon season continues to impact the region.
