Shan Masood Enthusiastic About Pakistan’s Fast-Bowling Depth for Upcoming Test Season
Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has expressed strong confidence in the team’s fast-bowling depth as the national side prepares for a busy Test season. In a recent PCB podcast with Bazid Khan, Masood discussed the importance of managing the workload of Pakistan’s pace bowlers to maintain their effectiveness throughout a demanding schedule.
Pakistan’s Test calendar is packed with series against Bangladesh (2 Tests at home), England (3 Tests at home), South Africa (2 Tests away), and the West Indies (2 Tests at home) through January 2025. Masood highlighted the need for strategic rotation of bowlers to keep them fresh and performing at their best.
“For instance, with Shaheen Afridi during the Australia series, he played two consecutive Test matches and needed a rest for the third to manage his workload effectively,” Masood explained. “We will continue to monitor and adjust accordingly to ensure our bowlers remain fit and effective.”
Masood is particularly excited about the depth in Pakistan’s fast-bowling department, noting that the current squad includes six talented pacers, each bringing unique skills to the team. “We have six exciting fast bowlers in our squad, all of whom are capable of making a claim for the playing XI. Each offers something different, which allows us to rotate and rest our premier bowlers as needed,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the emerging talent, including Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Ali, and Aamer Jamal. “These new players, along with our established stars like Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, offer qualities that can win matches and secure those crucial 20 wickets,” Masood added.
Pakistan’s Test series against Bangladesh is set to start on August 21 in Rawalpindi, marking the beginning of a crucial period for the team as they aim to excel in the upcoming fixtures.
