Sindh Govt to Distribute Free ‘Pink Scooters’ for Women in Karachi
Karachi – Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that the provincial government will distribute “Pink Scooters” free of cost to women in Karachi this week, aiming to support their daily travel needs.
The announcement came during the minister’s visit to review progress on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. He stated that construction of depots and related infrastructure is moving forward, while the Senator Taj Haider Bridge is in its final stages and expected to be completed within a week.
Sharjeel Memon highlighted that the Sindh government, with support from the World Bank, is working on several major transport initiatives for Karachi. Alongside the Pink Scooter scheme, a fleet of double-decker and electric buses is also set to arrive in the city in the coming weeks.
He further revealed that during President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China, discussions were held on establishing bus manufacturing plants in Sindh. According to the minister, these steps will not only enhance transport services but also create new employment opportunities.
Acknowledging delays in some ongoing projects, the minister said hurdles such as utility transfers have slowed down work, but efforts are being made to resolve them quickly.
The Pink Scooter distribution marks another step by the Sindh government toward improving safe, accessible, and modern transport options for women in Karachi.
