Sindh to Enforce Stricter Traffic Law, Including Demerit Points System

Governor Sindh Approves Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2025

Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has approved the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2025, calling it an important step toward stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved public safety across the province.

The new law introduces tougher legal action against traffic violations and places additional conditions on the issuance of heavy vehicle licenses. Mandatory pre-licensing training courses have also been made compulsory for those seeking LTV and HTV licenses, ensuring drivers gain both practical skills and road safety awareness.

A key feature of the bill is the introduction of a demerit points system. Under this system, drivers who violate traffic rules will have penalty points recorded against their licenses. Once a driver exceeds the prescribed limit, their license can be suspended or even revoked.

Governor Tessori noted that this legislation will act as a strong deterrent for habitual violators while enhancing road safety for citizens. The bill, approved under Article 116 of the Constitution, has come into immediate effect.

Highlighting the rapid increase in vehicles and frequent accidents in Sindh, the governor emphasized that this legal reform was a timely necessity. He added that the new framework will instill discipline among drivers, provide relief to the public, and make travel on provincial roads safer and more secure.
