Taylor Fritz Reaches Third Straight US Open Quarter-Final, to Face Novak Djokovic

Β September 1, 2025

Taylor Fritz is through to his third consecutive US Open quarter-final, setting up a blockbuster clash against four-time champion Novak Djokovic. The top-ranked American continues his strong run after a rocky start in New York, having struggled in his first seven visits before hitting his stride in 2023 and reaching last year’s final.

Fritz defeated Tomas Machac in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, in just one hour and 38 minutes. The American fired 14 aces, dropping only 13 points on his serve, while Machac created no break points and struggled to match Fritz’s pace.

Taylor dominated with 30 winners and just 18 unforced errors, breaking Machac four times from eight opportunities. The match featured solid holds on serve and key moments of precision from Fritz, including a crucial backhand down-the-line winner in the second set.

With this win, Fritz maintains his momentum heading into the quarter-finals, aiming to extend his impressive US Open run and challenge Djokovic for a place in the semis.
