Federal Government Approves Two New Interchanges to Boost Access to Ravi Riverfront Project

In a significant development aimed at enhancing urban connectivity, the federal government has approved the construction of two new interchanges to facilitate direct access between the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) and nearby motorways.

The approval was granted during a high-level meeting held at the National Highway Authority (NHA) regional office, chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan.

Strategic Focus on Infrastructure Alignment

The meeting focused on aligning the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) master plan with the broader national highway network to ensure seamless integration between ongoing urban expansion and Pakistan’s growing road infrastructure.

“The new interchanges are designed to support future traffic flow and urban growth associated with Ravi City,” said a RUDA official.

Locations of the New Interchanges

According to RUDA representatives, the newly approved interchanges will be constructed at:

  • Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (LSM) Eastern Bypass

  • Motorway M-2, a key route connecting Lahore to Islamabad

These interchanges are expected to offer direct and efficient access to Ravi City, helping reduce traffic congestion and travel times while improving connectivity for residents and businesses alike.

Fast-Tracking Development

Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of timely execution and directed all relevant departments to expedite the development process.

“These infrastructure upgrades are critical to supporting the vision behind the Ravi Urban Development,” he stated.

Key Officials Present

The meeting was attended by senior government officials and stakeholders, including:

  • Federal Secretary for Communications Ali Sher Mehsud

  • NHA Chairman Shehryar Sultan

  • RUDA CEO Imran Amin

  • COO (retd.) Brig Mansoor Janjua

  • Executive Director (Engineering) Abdul Waheed Khan

Conclusion:
The approved interchanges mark a pivotal step toward building smart, accessible, and sustainable urban centers. With enhanced motorway connectivity, the Ravi Riverfront project is poised to become a major urban hub aligned with Pakistan’s long-term development goals.
