UK Declares Islamabad Airport Security Measures “Satisfactory” Following In-Depth Audit
A delegation from the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT) has concluded a detailed aviation security audit at Islamabad International Airport, commending Pakistan’s airport safety protocols as “satisfactory” and in line with international standards, according to the Airport Security Force (ASF).
The three-member UK team arrived on July 8 for a three-day assessment, accompanied by an official from the British High Commission. Their visit began with a high-level briefing attended by representatives of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), ASF, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), British Airways, Air Blue, catering services, and other key stakeholders.

In a parallel development, Saudi Arabia is set to begin a comprehensive security audit of seven major Pakistani airports starting August 2025. These include:

The initiative comes at the request of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), following direct communication between its Director General and Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) DG, Nadir Shafi Dar. Audit visits are also scheduled for October.

Pakistan’s aviation security performance continues to improve on the global stage. The country recently scored 86.73% in the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP)—well above the global average of 71% and India’s score of 73%.
🛫 Direct Flights to the U.S. Under Discussion
In a move that could boost international connectivity, Pakistan’s CAA has initiated discussions with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding direct flights between Pakistan and the United States. This comes after progress in restoring European flight operations and strengthening ties with the UK aviation sector.
