Stephen Nedoroscik Leads Star-Studded Lineup at 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in New Orleans
Excitement is building as the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships return to New Orleans for the first time since 1995, taking place at the Smoothie King Center from Thursday to Sunday.
Among the top contenders is Stephen Nedoroscik, affectionately known as “The Pommel Horse Guy,” who will make his much-anticipated return to competition after earning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Nedoroscik is aiming for an impressive fifth consecutive national title on pommel horse.
Joining him at the championships are fellow Olympians Hezly Rivera, Brody Malone, Frederick Richard, and Asher Hong, all competing for a chance to represent the U.S. at the upcoming World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, this October. While this year’s world event will not feature a team competition, individual medals in the all-around and apparatus events are up for grabs.
What’s New This Year?
In addition to traditional titles, this year introduces a “Squad Showdown” format. Each rotation group will compete as a squad, and the top three scores from each event (on day one only) will be totaled. The squad with the highest cumulative score will be crowned the winner of this unique team-style challenge.
