Venus Williams Shares How She Would Raise Her Children and Opens Up About Health Journey

Tennis legend Venus Williams has long been a role model both on and off the court. Known for her powerful presence in women’s tennis alongside her sister Serena Williams, Venus recently opened up about her views on motherhood, heritage, and a personal health battle she faced quietly for years.

Proud of Her Roots and Determined to Pass It On

In a recent interview with Marie Claire UK, the seven-time Grand Slam champion shared that if she were to become a mother, she would want her children to be raised with the same values instilled in her and Serena by their parents.

“If I have kids, I really have to raise them the way my parents raised us — just to be proud of who we were, to know our history as African Americans,” Venus said. “Looking back, I’m glad I had that level of oblivion. Me being there wasn’t even considered special — I am who I am.”

The Williams sisters broke barriers in the sport of tennis and opened doors for future generations of Black athletes, but they’ve also spoken openly about the struggles and resistance they faced because of their race.

Health Struggles and Hope for the Future

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Venus revealed that she underwent surgery last year to remove fibroids and a large focal adenomyoma from her uterus. For years, she had been misdiagnosed, facing medical opinions that made her fear she might never be able to have children of her own.

“I was told I was inoperable. I was told I could bleed to death on the table. I was told to get a surrogate and forget the hope to carry my own children,” she wrote. “I was misdiagnosed. I went untreated for years and years.”

Fortunately, with the help of the right medical team, she was able to successfully undergo surgery and is now feeling hopeful again.

In a Happy Place Personally

In addition to reclaiming her health, Venus Williams also shared another positive update: she is in a happy relationship and recently got engaged to Italian actor Andre Pretti.

Venus Williams continues to inspire with her strength, resilience, and dedication — not only as a champion athlete but also as a woman who speaks her truth and stands strong in the face of adversity.
