Water Levels Rise Significantly; Spillways of Rawal and Khanpur Dams to Open Today

Spillways to Open at Rawal and Khanpur Dams Amid Rising Water Levels

Following recent heavy rainfall, water levels at Rawal Dam have reached 1,751 feet. To manage the increased water volume, authorities have announced that the dam’s spillways will be opened today at 1:30 PM. Assistant Commissioner Nilore will supervise the process to ensure a safe and controlled water discharge.

Rescue, security, and medical teams have been stationed at key points to support any emergency response needs. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary activity near the dam area as a precaution. All essential safety arrangements have been completed by the district administration.

Meanwhile, Khanpur Dam, located on the Haro River, has also experienced a rise in water storage, now measured at 1,980.80 feet. Due to ongoing rainfall in the catchment areas, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has scheduled the opening of Khanpur Dam’s spillways at 1:30 PM today. The controlled release of water is expected to continue for approximately six hours.

NDMA has issued safety advisories for communities in Hassan Abdal, Attock, and surrounding areas near the Haro River. Residents are encouraged to follow all safety instructions and cooperate with local authorities to ensure public safety.

Both dam management teams are actively monitoring the situation and have implemented necessary emergency protocols. Citizens are requested to remain alert and follow official updates to help minimize any potential risks.
