Will August bring a four-day holiday stretch next week?

Will Pakistanis Enjoy a Four-Day Holiday Weekend Next Week? 🇵🇰

ISLAMABAD – August 2025 may bring a welcome surprise for many citizens, as an extended holiday stretch is on the horizon with Independence Day and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) expected to fall on back-to-back days.

🎉 Independence Day Celebrations Underway Nationwide

Themed around “Marka-e-Haq”, this year’s Independence Day celebrations have already begun across the country, marked by patriotic events, student performances, and flag-hoisting ceremonies. The official holiday for August 14 has been confirmed by the Cabinet Division, as Pakistan honors its 78th year of independence.

🕊️ Chehlum Holiday Likely on August 15

The religious observance of Chehlum, which commemorates the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is expected to fall on Thursday, August 15. While Chehlum is not a federal holiday, it is often declared a public holiday at the provincial or local level.

In 2024, for example, the Sindh government granted a holiday across all schools on Chehlum, and a similar move could be made again this year.

🌙 Possible Four-Day Weekend

If provincial governments choose to observe Chehlum as a public holiday, it could lead to:

  • Thursday, August 15 – Chehlum (expected holiday)

  • Friday, August 16 – Possible bridge leave

  • Saturday, August 17 – Weekend

Combined with Independence Day on Wednesday, August 14, this setup could offer a rare four-day break, perfect for families to travel, unwind, or participate in national and religious observances.

📌 Official Announcements Awaited

As of now, no official notification has been issued regarding a public holiday for Chehlum in 2025. However, provincial and district authorities are expected to announce decisions in the coming days.

Keep following for updates on holiday notifications, school closures, and Marka-e-Haq celebrations from across Pakistan.
