Women’s World Cup 2025: Bangladesh Beat Pakistan by Seven Wickets

Colombo, October 2, 2025 — Bangladesh claimed a convincing seven-wicket win over Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium.

Chasing a modest target of 130, Bangladesh reached the mark with ease, losing only three wickets and with 113 balls to spare.

Opener Rubya Haider played a match-winning knock of 54 not out from 77 balls, including eight boundaries. She was well supported by skipper Nigar Sultana, who added 23 runs, and Sobhana Mostary, who contributed a quick 24 off 19 deliveries. The key partnership came between Haider and Nigar, who put on 62 runs for the third wicket.

For Pakistan, Rameen Shamim, Diana Baig, and captain Fatima Sana managed to claim a wicket each.

Earlier, Pakistan elected to bat first but could only manage 129 runs in 38.3 overs. The batting lineup struggled against Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling. Rameen Shamim (23), Fatima Sana (22), and Diana Baig (16 not out) were the notable contributors, while opener Muneeba Ali made 17 runs.

Bangladesh bowlers dominated the innings, with Shorna Akter leading the attack by taking 3 wickets for just 5 runs in 3.3 overs. Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter grabbed two wickets each, while Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun, and Nishita Akter Nishi picked up one apiece.

This victory gave Bangladesh a strong start to their World Cup campaign, while Pakistan will look to bounce back in the upcoming fixtures.
