Argentina’s Polo Spring Season 2025: Jockey Club Open Set to Kick Off
Next week marks the start of one of the most competitive polo seasons in the world — Argentina’s spring polo season. While it remains uncertain if the San Jorge Open will take place on Saturday, September 6, what’s confirmed is the launch of the 60th edition of the Jockey Club Open in San Isidro.
The prestigious tournament, a key warm-up to the Triple Crown, begins on Tuesday, September 6 at the Jockey Club and runs through Saturday, September 20. This year, six teams rated between 28 and 33 goals will battle for the coveted title.
Team Previews
La Hache – Defending champions return with nearly the same roster as last year, with Nachi Du Plessis replacing Tomás Panelo.
Scone – Last year’s finalists and two-time champions (2022 & 2023) are back with a powerhouse lineup featuring Adolfo Cambiaso (eight-time champion), Tomás Panelo, David Paradice, and Lukin Monteverde.
Pilot – Making a comeback after two years, Curtis’ team features three of the most recent Palermo winners: Jeta Castagnola, Barto Castagnola, and Facu Pieres. Pilot last claimed the Jockey Club Open in 2019 alongside the three Pieres brothers.
La Aguada – Triple Crown champions are back in action after their 2022 appearance. The same team will also compete in the Qualification for the Argentine Open.
La Irenita – The Mac Donough family’s organization will line up with the same squad aiming for Palermo qualification. Winners of the Jockey Club Open in 2010, they are eager to make a strong start this season.
Kazak – Making their San Isidro debut, the Gold Cup (England) finalists bring an exciting mix of youth and experience: Beltrán Laulhé, Lorenzo Chavanne, Polito Pieres, and Juanma Nero. Their goal is clear — to make a strong impact in Argentina’s most prestigious polo calendar.
