In a major step toward expanding Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, Amazon’s Project Kuiper — a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband initiative — has announced plans to launch high-speed satellite internet services in Pakistan by the end of 2026.
Expanding Internet Access Across Pakistan
The project, part of Amazon’s multi-billion-dollar global investment, aims to provide fast and affordable internet connectivity in remote and underserved regions around the world.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), this development follows a strategic meeting between Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja and the delegation from Amazon’s Project Kuiper.
Government Welcomes Amazon’s Entry
Welcoming Amazon’s interest, Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative represents a major milestone in advancing digital inclusion and strengthening Pakistan’s connectivity ecosystem.
“Project Kuiper’s entry into Pakistan is a significant step toward our vision of a Digital Nation, ensuring every citizen — regardless of location — has access to fast, affordable, and secure internet services,” she stated.
Establishing Local Infrastructure
The Kuiper team shared its plan to set up ground infrastructure, including gateways and Points of Presence (PoPs) across Pakistan. These facilities will enable reliable connectivity and seamless integration with the country’s growing digital ecosystem.
With a constellation of up to 3,236 satellites, Project Kuiper aims to deliver high-performance broadband speeds of up to 400 Mbps, using low-cost user terminals to ensure accessibility for households, businesses, and institutions alike.
Boost for Pakistan’s IT Sector
The collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for Pakistan’s IT and telecom sectors, enhancing innovation, supporting digital startups, and bridging the connectivity gap in rural and remote areas.
The Ministry of IT & Telecom reaffirmed its commitment to enabling global partnerships that support the Prime Minister’s vision of a modern, inclusive, and connected Digital Pakistan.
