Another KP District to Get BRT Service as Expansion Announced

 November 10, 2025

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a major expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network, aiming to make public transport more accessible and comfortable for citizens.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi confirmed that 50 new buses have been purchased for the project, with another 50 expected to arrive soon. The move is part of efforts to reduce overcrowding and improve the overall commuter experience for thousands of daily passengers.

BRT Expansion to Khyber District

The Chief Minister revealed that the expanded BRT route will soon reach Tedi Bazaar (Jamrud) and Bara Bazaar in district Khyber, making it the next region in KP to benefit from the service.

He highlighted that the BRT has become an affordable and reliable mode of transport for the poor and middle-class residents of the province, providing a safe and efficient way to travel across urban centers.

CM Afridi Travels on BRT to Review Service

During a visit to the University of Peshawar Station, CM Afridi personally traveled on the BRT to Karkhano Station, where he interacted with commuters and listened to their feedback. He was accompanied by elected representatives and the Chief Secretary, emphasizing his government’s commitment to improving public transport services.

Speaking to reporters, he stated,

“I wanted to experience the service myself and ensure that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are getting the quality and comfort they deserve.”

Political Remarks on Constitutional Amendment

When asked about the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the Chief Minister expressed strong reservations, calling it “against the spirit of democracy.”
He added,

“The current government has only 17 seats. Without the people’s mandate, they have no authority to make such constitutional changes.”

A Step Toward Better Urban Mobility

With the BRT expansion and new buses on the way, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government aims to enhance urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a modern, eco-friendly public transport solution for citizens.

The initiative marks another milestone in the province’s journey toward sustainable and inclusive urban development.
