Application Portal Opened for Punjab E-Taxi Scheme

Punjab Launches First-Ever E-Taxi Scheme Under Transport Vision 2030

The Punjab government has announced the launch of its first-ever E-Taxi Scheme, aimed at providing eco-friendly and affordable transport options as part of the provinceโ€™s Transport Vision 2030.

First Phase Rollout
In the initial phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed. Interested applicants can apply online through the official portal at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk until October 5, 2025.

Benefits of the Initiative
Officials highlighted that the scheme will:

  • Reduce air pollution across Punjab.

  • Cut fuel costs for drivers and passengers.

  • Provide modern travel facilities to citizens.

  • Create new employment opportunities.

  • Improve overall urban mobility in major cities.

Financing Support for EVs
The provincial government has also finalized a financing arrangement for electric vehicles. Under the approved scheme, participating banks will provide loans of up to Rs. 6.5 million for EV purchases.

Buyers will make a subsidized down payment, while the Punjab government will cover the interest cost on the loan. For vehicles priced between Rs. 4 million and Rs. 10 million, the government will contribute Rs. 585,000 toward the down payment, with the balance financed through partner banks.

This initiative comes shortly after the successful launch of electric bus services in multiple districts, marking another milestone in Punjabโ€™s transition to sustainable urban transport.
