Global Camaraderie Shines as Men’s Softball Returns to World Games in Chengdu
CHENGDU, Aug. 7 β The 2025 World Games in Chengdu have kicked off in thrilling fashion, with men’s softball making a triumphant return after 44 years. Despite soaring temperatures above 35Β°C, players from around the world are showcasing their passion, resilience, and gratitude for the eventβs exceptional hospitality.
The intense heat in southwest China has tested athletes’ stamina, but many remain optimistic and upbeat. Teo Migliavacca, an outfielder for Argentina, shared his thoughts on adapting to the weather:
βItβs definitely been a tough adjustment,β he said. βIn Argentina, itβs winter now, with temperatures around 5Β°C. But since many of us play against teams from the U.S. and Canada during summer, weβre managing fine.β
Australia’s Brendon O’Byrne echoed a different kind of warmth β the kind shown by the host city.
βFrom the airport to the field, the welcome has been amazing. Everything is well-organized, and the people here have been so kind. Weβve truly enjoyed our time in Chengdu,β he said.
Singaporean pitcher Raynard Heng also praised the smooth execution of the event, saying:
βHonestly, I didnβt expect it to be this well-managed. The infrastructure, coordination, and staff support have all been top-notch.β
The World Games, running from August 7 to 17, have become more than just a sporting spectacle. For Venezuelaβs head coach Omar Torres, the broader impact is clear:
βThese Games are helping to grow sports globally. Chinaβs support for emerging disciplines like softball is commendable. We hope this momentum continues in the future.β
As softball takes center stage once again, itβs not just about winning or losing β itβs about unity, cultural exchange, and a shared love for the game.
