Australia Announces Squad for WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2025

Australia has revealed its 20-player roster for the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2025, set to be held in Okinawa, Japan, from September 5 to 14. The squad was finalized after a selection camp in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.

Manager Jason Pospishil described the team as β€œvery versatile,” comprising eight pitchers and 12 position players.

Key Players

  • Josh Nati, an infielder, is the only returning player from the 2023 edition, where he hit .300 over eight games.

  • Mitch Evans, a left-handed pitcher, recently signed a professional contract with MLB’s Detroit Tigers.

  • Matt Trainor, the U-18 National Championship MVP, adds utility strength to the squad.

  • Other notable players include Ben Nesbit and Nate Quigg, who have debuted in the Australian Baseball League, along with Riley Puckett (Best Pitcher) and Lachlan Vella (Best Hitter).

β€œWearing an Australian jersey is an honour and a privilege,” Pospishil said. β€œStanding on the foul line and hearing the anthem reminds players of their responsibility and the opportunity to represent the nation.” He emphasized that consistent performance is key, but a single bad camp doesn’t define a player’s career. Talented athletes may later advance to the U-23 or senior national teams.

Tournament Details

Australia, currently world No. 10, has participated in the U-18 Baseball World Cup 28 times, with a best finish of second place in 2010 and four bronze medals. They finished 10th in 2023.

The team will compete in Group B against:

  • No. 2 USA

  • No. 3 Chinese Taipei

  • No. 9 Panama

  • No. 18 Germany

  • No. 19 China

Group A includes Japan (No. 1, defending champions), Cuba, Italy, Korea, Puerto Rico, and South Africa.

The tournament promises high-level international competition and a chance for Australia’s top youth talent to shine on the global stage.
