Punjab Government Bans Bathing in Rainwater Amid Monsoon Safety Concerns

The Punjab government has imposed a 45-day ban on bathing or swimming in accumulated rainwater across the province due to rising public safety concerns during the ongoing monsoon season.


📄 Official Notification Issued Under Section 144

According to a notification from the Punjab Home Department, the restriction has been enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, making it illegal to bathe or swim in:

  • Rainwater pools on streets and roads

  • Open or low-lying urban and rural areas

  • Dams, rivers, canals, lakes, ponds, and distributaries

The ban is effective immediately and will continue for 45 days, unless lifted earlier.


🌀 Monsoon Rains Prompt Emergency Measures

Punjab has experienced widespread water accumulation due to ongoing monsoon showers, increasing the risk of:

  • Drowning incidents

  • Waterborne diseases

  • Electrical hazards from submerged infrastructure

Officials emphasized that the ban is a preventive step to avoid accidents and safeguard public health.


🚤 Unauthorized Boating Also Prohibited

In addition to bathing restrictions, the government has also prohibited boating by any unauthorized person or for unapproved purposes in all natural and man-made water bodies.
