Spain to Host Denmark in Second Round of Davis Cup Qualifiers on Clay
Spain will face Denmark in the second round of the Davis Cup Finals Qualifiers at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella, with captain David Ferrer assembling a strong team for the clay-court showdown.
Carlos Alcaraz, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers are set to compete on September 13-14, aiming to secure Spain’s spot at the Davis Cup Finals. Notably, Alcaraz will switch surfaces just days after the US Open, eager to lead his team to victory.
Ferrer will announce the fifth team member soon, while Olympic doubles champion Marc Lopez joins the technical staff to support the squad.
The captain expressed confidence ahead of the tough tie, praising his team’s commitment and intensity. With Alcaraz returning to form and Davidovich Fokina playing well, Spain boasts strong firepower to challenge Denmark’s Holger Rune and Elmer Moller. The opening day promises to be crucial, and Ferrer believes his players are ready to seize the initiative.
This will be Spain’s first clay-court Davis Cup tie since their 2022 clash with Romania, which marked Carlos Alcaraz’s debut for Spain at just 18 years old.
Alcaraz, a five-time Major champion, holds a 6-2 record in Davis Cup matches, including 5-1 in singles. His only defeat came against Felix Auger-Aliassime three years ago. Last year, he captained Spain as they secured a place at the Finals held in Marbella, though the team fell short of the title after a narrow doubles loss to the Netherlands.
If Alcaraz and Davidovich Fokina perform at their best, Spain will be strong favorites against Denmark. Ferrer also expects passionate home support to play a key role in the team’s success.
