Chelsea Hit With 74 FA Charges Over Alleged Agent Regulation Breaches
LONDON: Chelsea Football Club has been charged with 74 alleged breaches of Football Association (FA) rules relating to agent regulations, the governing body confirmed on Thursday.
According to the FA, the charges cover a period between 2009 and 2022, during the club’s ownership under Roman Abramovich. Most of the alleged incidents occurred between the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons.
Alleged Irregular Payments
The breaches are believed to involve irregular payments linked to player transfers, including high-profile signings such as Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o, and Willian.
⚠️ The FA stressed that no wrongdoing is suggested on the part of the players involved.
Possible Sanctions
If the charges are proven, Chelsea could face:
-
A transfer ban
-
A points deduction
-
Or a substantial fine
However, the club’s decision to proactively disclose the issues may work in their favor, with the possibility that an independent commission could impose a financial penalty rather than sporting sanctions.
Next Steps
The FA has given Chelsea until 19 September to formally respond to the charges.
This development comes at a time when Chelsea, now owned by Todd Boehly’s consortium, is seeking stability both on and off the pitch after a challenging few seasons.
