Spanish Duo Álvarez and Moreno Advance at Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Montréal
Montréal, August 15, 2025 – Spanish Olympians Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno made an impressive comeback in Montréal, securing their spot in the elimination rounds of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Montréal Elite.
After surviving two elimination matches in Wednesday’s qualifier, the 23-year-olds won both of their main draw matches on Thursday, rallying from behind in three-set victories. Their first match saw Álvarez and Moreno defeat Swiss sisters Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré 2-1 (17-21, 21-16, 15-9), before beating Austrian siblings Ronja and Dorina Klinger 2-1 (17-21, 21-13, 15-10) later in the day.
With two wins, the Spanish team is guaranteed a place in the knockout stages. On Friday, they will face Canadian wildcards Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse, with a win giving them direct entry to the quarterfinals. The Canadians must win to stay alive in the tournament, having lost both of their opening matches.

Pool B:
Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann and Latvians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova won both their matches and will meet for first place and a direct quarterfinal spot. Australians Taliqua Clancy and Jana Milutinovic and Americans Julia Donlin and Lexy Denaburg, both 0-2, will battle for a Round of 12 spot.
Pool D:
Canadian gold medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes opened their campaign with a straight-sets win (21-12, 23-21) over the Dutch pair Mila Konink and Raisa Schoon. Germans Sandra Ittlinger and Anna-Lena Grüne upset Brazilian Olympians Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti 2-0 (21-11, 21-17).
Pool A:
Brazilian Olympic champions Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos and top-ranked duo Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes both won in straight sets to start the tournament strong.
