Major Roads to Be Solar-Lit

As part of the project, the following major roads have been selected for solar-powered streetlight installation:

  • Shahra-e-Faisal

  • Marine Drive (Clifton)

  • Shahrah-i-Iran

  • Shahrah-i-Firdousi

KMC officials have confirmed that the procurement process is complete, and over 1,000 solar poles and lights are scheduled to arrive in Karachi by mid-August.

A Sustainable Vision for Karachi

Speaking on the project, Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized its importance as a long-term investment in sustainability. “These are not just streetlights—they represent a move toward energy efficiency and environmental responsibility,” he noted.

The project includes a five-year post-installation operation and maintenance plan, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the solar lighting system. The initiative is also expected to significantly reduce the city’s energy costs.

Mayor Wahab has directed officials to adhere strictly to the deadline, warning that any delays will result in disciplinary action.

Additional Urban Development Initiatives

In the same meeting, the Mayor also instructed the KMC engineering department to:

  • Install public restrooms in each district and high-traffic areas

  • Complete ongoing development projects at:

    • Hassan Ali Hothi Market

    • Empress Market (Phase II)
