Donkey Meat Recovered Near Kasur as Crackdown on Illegal Meat Trade Intensifies
KASUR – Authorities have seized a large quantity of suspected donkey meat from a village near Kasur, marking another significant action in the ongoing campaign against the illegal meat trade in Pakistan.
According to reliable sources, police raided Kotli Rai Abu Bakar, a village located on the outskirts of Kasur, after receiving a tip-off from intelligence agencies. During the operation, one suspect was apprehended while three others managed to flee the scene.
Several maunds of meat were confiscated, and an official case has been registered. Investigations are currently underway, with law enforcement agencies working to locate the remaining suspects.
Similar Raids in Battagram and Islamabad
This latest recovery comes shortly after a similar raid in the Kuzabanda area of Battagram district, where a slaughtered donkey was discovered. Two individuals, hailing from Hunza and Mansehra, were arrested in a joint operation led by the Additional Assistant Commissioner and a Food Inspector.
In another major bust earlier this month, the Islamabad Food Authority uncovered nearly 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat at a farmhouse in Tarnol. Over 50 live donkeys were also found at the location, leading to the arrest of a foreign national.
Public Health at Stake
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on the illegal sale of unhygienic and hazardous meat, citing serious public health concerns. Officials warn that such illegal practices pose significant risks to consumers and must be rooted out completely.
Operations across different cities are expected to continue, as both local law enforcement and food safety agencies increase surveillance to protect consumers and maintain food quality standards.
