Electricity Bills Likely to Drop in August: NEPRA Set to Approve Rs. 0.77 Per Unit Tariff Reduction
In a welcome development for electricity consumers across Pakistan, a further reduction of Rs. 0.77 per unit (inclusive of taxes) in power tariffs is expected in the upcoming electricity bills for August 2025. This anticipated relief comes under two major billing components — the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) and the Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA).
NEPRA Poised to Approve Tariff Cuts
According to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), power distribution companies (DISCOs) submitted their fourth quarterly adjustment request for the fiscal year 2024–25. A public hearing was held on August 4, 2025, and NEPRA is now likely to approve a negative adjustment of Rs. 1.89 per unit, applicable for the billing months of August, September, and October.
Key Reasons Behind the Expected Reduction
The expected reduction in tariffs is attributed to:
-
Revised agreements with power generation companies
-
Higher electricity demand during peak season
-
Integration of captive power plants into the national grid
These factors have led to a decrease in overall power production costs, enabling a relief of Rs. 0.34 per unit to be reflected in August’s QTA portion of the bill.
Fuel Cost Adjustment Brings Additional Relief
In addition to the quarterly adjustment, consumers will also benefit from a Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) based on June 2025’s fuel costs. The Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G) submitted its request on July 16, followed by a public hearing on July 3.
As per NEPRA’s preliminary review, a further reduction of Rs. 0.78 per unit is likely to be approved for August bills. This includes:
-
Rs. 0.50 per unit already applied in July bills
-
The remaining Rs. 0.28 per unit now set to be adjusted in August
Total Expected Relief for Consumers: Rs. 0.77 Per Unit
Combining both the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (Rs. 0.34) and Fuel Price Adjustment (Rs. 0.43), consumers are expected to see a total relief of approximately Rs. 0.77 per unit in their August electricity bills.
✅ What This Means for You
With rising inflation and utility costs, this potential tariff reduction offers some much-needed financial relief for households and businesses alike. If approved, the adjustment will apply automatically and be visible in your August, September, and October 2025 electricity bills.
