Hollister Teen Mia Mead to Represent Team USA at World Softball Championship

September 2, 2025

A rising star from Hollister is set to make her mark on the international stage. 14-year-old Mia Mead has been selected to join the All-American softball team, representing the United States at the World Softball Championship in Puerto Rico this November.

Mia earned her spot after an impressive performance at the EXACT X1 Showcase in June, where college coaches from across the country took notice of her athleticism and determination. Among them was Austin College head softball coach Brandon Johnson, who praised Mia’s work ethic:

“She’s so talented and coachable—it’s no surprise she’s headed for big things,” Johnson said.

A Passion for the Game

Mia’s love for softball began at a young age. She has played for several local teams, including the Hollister Heat, Hollister Blackjacks, and now competes with the Firecrackers Bay Area in Morgan Hill.

“I really enjoy being able to play softball—it’s just a part of me,” Mia shared.

While joining the All-American team means competing alongside players she has never met, Mia sees it as an exciting challenge. “I’m nervous because I won’t know anyone, but I’m also excited to get to know new people and play outside my comfort zone,” she said.

Training and Dedication

Her father, Scott Mead, who also serves as her coach, highlighted Mia’s dedication:

“She trains five to six days a week, whether in the gym or on the field. The hard work is paying off.”

Mia hopes the championship will open doors for her future, giving her the chance to showcase her skills to college recruiters while building lifelong friendships.

Community Support Needed

With this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity comes significant expenses. The Mead family is seeking sponsorships and donations to help cover travel and competition costs.
